It was a pleasant start to our French meal with the Potato and Leek Soup. The special soho of the day was rich and creamy, with a fantastic potato flavour and just a delectable richness that was well accompanied by the crunch of croutons.
We also enjoyed the Goat Cheese Soufflé. Light and fluffy, the cheesy sensation was bold and forward. The lovely soufflé sat on top of a rich and appetising tomato? Sauce? That offered up a pleasant sweetness.
The Scallops also impressed. Lightly seared, the scallops were almost translucent and cooked to perfection. Paired with a fatty pork belly and some caviar, this was an absolute delight.
Our mains consisted of the signature Beef Bourguignon. The giant slow cooked beef perched precariously on top of a generous helping of crunch broccoli. The beef itself was slow cooked to great softness, and effortlessly falling apart with the push of a fork. The red wine aroma permeated boldly throughout the protein, and it was beautifully accompanied by a sizeable scoop of smooth, creamy mashed potatoes.
We rounded off the evening on a sweet note with the Souffle au Chocolat. Stunningly presented and peeping out of its bowl, the tall soufflé was amazingly soft and fluffy. Pouring in the velvety chocolate sauce made for a sinfully sweet and rather indulgent experience even better. Seriously the perfect French dessert!
Unfortunately our Duo de Canard failed to impress on this occasion. The majority of the duck was much too tough and chewy, even though the leg was done to perfection. This was surely the toughest duck we have ever come across, so much so that we had to send it back.
