Our Cold Brew was certainly much-appreciated after a couple of days of unimpressive coffees in Brisbane. The coffee was just so aromatic and flavourful, bold and full-bodied without being overwhelming. The long-lingering aftertaste was definitely enjoyable and made this unquestionably the best cuppa we came across in Brisbane.
Food-wise, it was an impressive start with the Hanger Steak. The star of the show of this beautifully plated dish was of course the hanger steak itself. The beef was top quality, offering a delicious beefy flavour and cooked to a medium. It’s slight chewiness ensured plenty of flavour flowed through from each bite. This was well accompanied by a great variety of mushrooms, with the fried enoki offering an excellent crisp while the juicy field mushrooms were soft and meaty. Served alongside were heavenly soft, duck fat roasted potatoes with a pillowy sensation, as well as well-caramelised whole onions providing an excellent sweetness. Holding it altogether was the herby and slightly spicy chimmichuri. Just a thoroughly excellent all-rounder.
We also enjoyed the Pumpkin. Roasted to just the perfect softness, the pumpkin fell apart with the push of a fork and simply melted away in your mouth. The excellent sweetness was beautifully accompanied by the savoury saltbush and miso, while its creamy texture was juxtaposed by grains of lentils scattered liberally throughout. Combined with an exceptionally hot fermented chilli, this vegetarian dish certainly delivered a full-on, unforgettable flavourful hit!
We rounded off our meal with the gorgeous Doughnut Waffle. Fresh off the press, this dessert perfectly combined the best of both worlds, the crispness of a fresh waffle, and the springy softness of a doughnut. These were topped with a tangy lemon thyme mascarpone and dusted with bits of sugar. When combined with slices of peach and fresh whole blueberries offering up just a hint of tartness, this was a very well balanced dessert that won’t make you feel too guilty.
As a newcomer to Brisbane, Six Feet Under brings with it the Melbourne cafe standards to we’ve become so accustomed to.
While a perfect cup of coffee, creative brunch dishes and excitable flavours have mostly become the norm in Melbourne, this appears to not yet be the case in Brisbane.
Albiet a bit pricier than other breaky options, Brisbanites can now too enjoy the simple pleasures of a top-notch weekend brunch!
