The Eggs Benedict was a beautiful sight to behold. Topping the round portion of pork shoulder was a perfectly poached egg, with its yolk just begging to be popped. The runny egg yolk perfectly combined with the burnt butter hollandaise, which made for a deep and creamy sensation. The pulled pork shoulder was also enjoyable, with great flavour and a lovely pork aroma. Unfortunately, the pork itself was a tad dry on this occasion, though the sauces on the dish certainly helped.
We also enjoyed the Mixed Mushrooms dish. With an abundance of beautifully sauteed mushrooms sitting on top a generous bed of soft, fluffy polenta, this dish was exceptionally fragrant and made flavoursome thanks to the juicy mushrooms The polenta itself was plentiful and provided a beautiful, almost airy consistency, though it definitely needed a stronger dose of truffle to make its mark. The scattered chunks of goats cheese offered up plenty of creaminess, while the hazelnut bits provided a satisfying crunch element to this well-balanced dish.
We concluded with a dose of sweetness thanks to the Hotcakes. The stunning beauty of this dessert was undeniable, with fairy floss draped all over the thick hotcake, which was exceptionally soft and spongy without being overly airy, perfectly soaking up the drizzle of maple syrup. On top sat a beautiful nutella mascarpone, offering a sweet, sticky richness that was well contrasted by the berry compote scattered throughout. Served with a side of plain vanilla soft serve, this dessert is sure to satisfy any sweettooth!
One by One excels as a modern and trendy cafe situated in the quiet suburb of Keilor, and their unique twists and tweaks to everyday breakfast items like Hotcakes and Eggs Benedict definitely made it an interesting and memorable experience.
Coupled with solid coffees and friendly service, this will surely become a go-to for the neighbourhood!
