- Corn, Zucchini and Carrot Fritters
- Harissa Scrambled Eggs with Sujuk
Despite the seemingly simple name of Scrambled Eggs, this dish was anything but. Mixed with a generous amount of house-made harissa, these silky smooth, creamy scrabmled eggs were pillowy soft and incredibly flavourful. This was well accompanied by a generous dollop of house-made labne, a light greek yoghurt that offered up a pleasant creaminess throughout and providing relief to the spices within. Contrasting the softer components of the dish were two crunch slices of sourdough, lightly toasted and embedded with an abundance of seeds to offer up textured and satisfying experience.
Our leaning tower of Corn, Zucchini and Carrot Fritters certainly didn’t disappoint either. Pan-fried to a slight crisp, these golden-brown fritters delicately combines all the qualities of these veggies to offer up a sweet and savoury, crunchy yet soft experience all in a single bite. The sweet, bold tomato relish was fragrant and aromatic, which was well complemented by the soft, spongy slice of grilled Greek haloumi, which had a great cheesy flavour without being overwhelmingly salty.
The Mujudara is apparently a family secret recipe, and we certainly enjoyed every last bite of this very special dish. Akin to a warm rice bowl, within we found a generous helping of pillowy soft, slow cooked rice that was well-spiced and incredibly flavoursome. Mixed with soft green lentils and an abundance of Middle-Eastern ingrdients including mint yoghurt and harissa, the flavour profile of this rice bowl was just incredible. The crunch elements of the dish were found in the crispy caramelised onions as well as the fresh rocket and beetroot cubes, offering up an appetising, earthy.but incredibly healthy comfort food.
The Spot’s unique take on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine is a welcome and refreshing change to the expansive yet rather conventional brunch scene in Melbourne.
While the region’s food is often associated with greasy and unhealthy options like Kebabs and Gyros, The Spot most definitely breaks the norm and proves that Middle Eastern cuisine can be tasty, healthy and creative all at once!
