We started off with the Cheesy Garlic Pizza. Fresh out of the oven, the cheese was liberally applied and exceptionally stringy. This was well complemented by a strong yet not overpowering garlic flavour throughout. With a thin, crispy base and piping hot, crunchy crust, this was definitely the perfect start to a pizza-filled meal.
A highlight of the evening was the Napoli Tagliatelle. With a bold and rich tomato base, the slight sourness of the Napoli sauce was incredibly appetising and refreshing. Without being overloaded with cheese, this lightly flavoured dish was served with perfectly cooked Tagliatelle, which was served al dente. With a light basil aroma permeating throughout and perfectly accompanying the tomato base, this dish was a crowd favourite.
The Spaghetti Bolognese was also quite enjoyable. The richness of the tomato and meat sauces were incredibly appetising. The Bolognese was full of flavour and generously loaded with ground beef. With an oily outer, this coated the thick yet perfectly cooked spaghetti nicely.
We also enjoyed the Moroccan Chick Pizza, which provided a unique and innovative twist on traditional flavours. Loaded with generous chunks of juicy tender chicken, the pizza was made exceptionally spicy with the Harissa Aioli. The peppers provided an additional kick in hotness on top, which proved to be too much for some. Fortunately, this was balanced out by huge dollops of hummus which, can be best said as an attempt, to tone down the heat. For those who enjoy spicy food, this pizza was a definite winner.
We felt that while the Chattylicious was unique and very creative, the components failed to work together. It’s all well and good to put together donuts, peanut butter, Nutella and marshmallows and all these ingredients would’ve been complimentary of each other, the bacon was just one ingredient too many. The savoury nature of bacon on this dessert pizza made it a very strange sensory experience for our palate, and it was universally agreed that this would’ve been better off without the bacon.
While none of the dishes were remarkable per se, it was most definitely enjoyable and tasty indeed. Made with fresh, wholesome ingredients, both the pizzas and pastas here offers a taste of authenticity with modern twists thrown in.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
While it may not be worth it to specifically make the venture out, it’s most definitely worth a try when in the area, and I for sure will be ordering again!
