The Shanghai Fried Pork Buns were quite enjoyable despite the presentation. The bun itself was fragrant and soft. Fried to a nice crispy bottom, this was well contrasted by the bouncy and exceptionally juicy mince within.
The Pan Fried Pork Dumplings were honestly disappointing. Gone were the juicy, thin-skinned and perfectly fried gems that Aunty used to dish out. What we did receive today were dumplings that were over-fried and dry, with skin way too thick resulting in a chewy and doughy sensation. The mince pork within was also noticeably smaller.
Unfortunately, it is very clear that the quality of these dumplings are not what they used to be. While nothing was bad, it's certainly a far cry from the caliber of dumplings we have been so used to when visiting Aunties.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Perhaps, but given tonight's poor performance, they are now surely and definitely off my regular visit list.
